Putting the ‘Social’ Back into Social Media

What has social media become?

How social are we when engaging on these platforms, and what does it even mean to be social now?

The title alone should define the importance behind the idea of social media. After all, the very essence of social media should be interacting with each other’s content, but how many of us have become used to the habit of posting and then simply disappearing – until it’s time to create the next post?

We’re seeing that social media is becoming increasingly less social!

The problem

People don’t tend to engage on social media anymore, and neither do businesses. It’s even easier for businesses not to engage due to ‘scheduling’ functions making posting content quicker and simpler than ever. Pre-plan when and where it goes out and let the apps worry about the rest…

People are forgetting about why it’s important to have a presence on social media, and why just posting isn’t good enough anymore. Social media needs to be social! It needs people to make it work.

The benefits

Social media is an important tool for businesses and it should be used in that way!

There are many different ways to be social when it comes to social media, from liking/commenting/sharing, all the way through to collaborations and giveaways. It comes down to creating deeper connections with businesses and potential customers than just face-value posting.

The solution

Humans naturally want to create connections. Social media is the perfect place to take advantage of that!

Sometimes all a solution requires is just a little bit of time. Dedicating just 10 minutes a day responding to comments and messages is a great first step towards creating better connections, and becoming more social overall on these platforms.

When you use social media in the right way, you create real relationships – which should be the true end goal of using these platforms. Your network and community will start to grow, and in-turn, you can begin to earn more business!
