Starting Your Social Over? Follow These Tips!

If you’re starting a new social media account, or giving your social media a fresh new rebrand, here are some tips and tricks you’ll want to follow!

The tricky thing with social media and all its platforms, is that it’s always changing! Whether it’s the algorithms, the layout, or the type of content going out, you always have to be on the lookout for the newest update.

But don’t let that discourage you. There are still some consistent tips you can follow to make sure your social media is putting out the best content possible.

Today we’re going to be discussing some of those tips, and how you can give your social media a fresh start.

Appearance isn’t everything, but it’s a good starting point

When you think about social media, you may be drawn to how it looks first and foremost. Whilst appearance isn’t the most important part, it is one that most people will be looking at on a first impression.

Make sure you’re posting high quality, informative content. That means high quality images, no blurring or awkward cropping! That also means consistently using your brand colours and theming, so there is cohesion throughout the account. If you’re starting from scratch, then we suggest having a look at some complimenting colour palettes – no clashing colours. Plus, graphics and social cards should be there to serve a purpose, not there to just look pretty for the sake of it.

Everything you post needs to be posted for a reason, and pleasing to the eye as well.

SEO isn’t just for Google

Now that you have the content nailed down, take a look at your social media bios. What are they suggesting about your business? SEO isn’t just for Google – you can optimise your bios as well, filtering in your target keywords for your business and industry.

You also want to make sure they reflect your target messaging, and are consistent with the messaging across all your platforms, website included.

Work on your hashtag strategy

Hashtags, and your hashtag strategy overall, is more important than you think. They help make sure your content is seen by the right people, in the right communities. Using up-to-date, relevant hashtags are a great way to reach your target audience, but to also reach new audience groups too.

Not only does it help with getting your content seen, it can also help to add context to your posts, and drive traffic to your accounts overall. Add new hashtags into your posts as a certified way to freshen up your social media.

Engage with your audience and community

Remember who you are posting to. The people on the other side of the accounts are just that – people. So you need to remember to engage with your audience and the people within your community.

You can do this in numerous ways – likes, comments, shares – the important thing is to be organic and authentic! Another way is to take advantage of carousel posts, as it will encourage your audience to keep swiping and stay engaged with your content for longer.

As prefaced in the introduction, social media platforms are always changing and adapting. However, these are some consistent tips to help keep you ahead of the game, and at the same level as your competitors?
